Individual Donations

One in five Canadians will experience mental health issues during their lifetime and in fact, seven million Canadians will need professional assistance in facing these problems.

During 2009-2010, 834 individuals came to Causeway and made use of Causeway’s programs and services; 454, found active employment in the Ottawa community. There are numerous worthwhile causes that you can support; however we believe we have 834 reasons why you should support Causeway. The three levels of government provide the principal funding for Causeway; however this funding can be unpredictable. We must therefore rely on private foundations and the generosity of the community for help that allows us to provide relief for people suffering from mental health issues and other disabilities.

You should know:
When donating to the Causeway Foundation, 100% of your donation goes directly to support the programs and
services of Causeway Work Centre. The Foundation takes no fee, commission or charge of any kind whatsoever.

How you can Support Causeway:

  • Make a financial donation
  • Donate used and unwanted bicycles to Cycle Salvation
  • Call Krackers Katering for your catering needs
  • Call Good Nature Groundskeeping for yard maintenance and snow removal

To make a financial donation:

The Causeway Foundation welcomes donations at any time. To make a donation, please mail your cheque,
payable to the Causeway Foundation:

Monthly Giving

Join Causeway’s Building Bridges Monthly Giving Club!

It’s easy.  It’s flexible.  It’s convenient.  It’s affordable.

Monthly giving by credit card or through the United Way payroll deduction program is a cost-effective, reliable
and consistent source of funding for Causeway Foundation. Please remember that every penny of your gift is
directed back into Causeway programs and services.

Above all, it is rewarding - your monthly gift will help to ensure that we are able to offer programs and services
that further the well-being of persons with mental illness and other disabilities.

A gift of $10, $20 or $30 (just $1 a day) will make a tangible difference to the lives of people relying on
Causeway’s services.

A Gift for the Future

Leaving a gift to Causeway in our will allows us to take care of our family first, but still reduce future estate taxes and create a legacy to help those suffering from mental illness. It is important to us that we’ll be making a gift that will far exceed what we had ever thought was possible during our lifetimes.

We chose to make our gift to the Causeway Foundation Endowment Fund at the Community Foundation of Ottawa because it’s comforting to know that the money
we donate will exist in perpetuity, and the income on that fund will provide a steady source of support to a cause that is very close to our hearts.”

Jeff and Leah Eustace, Ottawa

A planned gift is a commitment that you promise to make in the future. They allow donors to leave
a lasting legacy with a Foundation or cause of choice and they provide considerable advantages
in minimizing the amount of tax payable on estate tax returns.

Making a Bequest
A bequest through your will allows you to provide a significant future gift to Causeway without affecting
your current needs. To make a bequest, you do not have to rewrite your existing will. Simply ask your
lawyer to add a codicil designating “Causeway Foundation” as a beneficiary. Your estate will receive
a tax credit for the full amount given.

A bequest can be for a stated percentage of your estate, a specific dollar amount, a percentage of the
remainder of your estate after other needs have been met (also called a residual bequest), or a share
of your estate after your other beneficiaries have died (called a contingent bequest).

You can choose to name the Causeway Foundation Endowment Fund
(housed with the Community Foundation of Ottawa) as the beneficiary of your gift.

Although bequests are the most common way to leave a legacy to charity, there are other ways as well:

  • Gift of Publicly-listed Securities: A gift of publicly-listed securities (or stock) is exempt from
capital gains, and you will receive a tax receipt for the current value of the securities.

  • Gifts of Life Insurance: You can name Causeway as the beneficiary of either an existing policy,
    or a new one.

  • Charitable Gift Annuities: Gift annuities are a wonderful way to provide a significant gift, while
ensuring that you will have a steady source of income for life.

Endowment giving

The Foundation has just published a brochure explaining the benefits of donating to the Causeway
Endowment Fund. The Fund, established earlier this year, is a long-term means of improving the
lives of those suffering from a mental illness and other disabilities. Endowments are designed so the
principal is never touched with only a portion of the investment income utilized each year. For a copy
of the brochure and to learn about the benefits of endowment giving, please call 613-725-3494 ext. 108
or send an e-mail to info@causewayfoundation.org.
